- Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) – A group of genetic connective tissue disorders causing joint hypermobility, skin that bruises easily, and other systemic symptoms.
- Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) – A condition related to EDS involving generalized joint laxity without meeting full EDS diagnostic criteria
- Mast Cell Activation / Mast Cell Disorders – Conditions where mast cells release inflammatory chemicals inappropriately, causing allergy-like symptoms without classic allergies.
- Allergic Response / Hypersensitivity – How the immune system overreacts to certain foods, medicines, or environmental triggers.
- Dermatographia – A skin condition where even light interaction with the skin from a nonabrasive surface can cause raised, red lines or welts; often mistaken for an allergic rash.
- Biopsy – A medical procedure where a small sample of tissue is removed and examined under a microscope to diagnose or test for pathogenicity.
- Endoscopy / Colonoscopy – Procedures using a camera to visualize internal organs (esophagus/stomach/colon) relevant to GI symptoms.
- Gastrointestinal (GI) – Relating to the digestive tract (stomach, intestines)
- Connective Tissue – The structural tissue that supports joints and organs, often discussed in EDS-related content.
- Excipients / Fillers / Inactive Ingredients – Chemicals in pills (binders, dyes, PEGs, etc.) that can trigger reactions in sensitive patients.
- FD&C Dyes – Synthetic color additives sometimes linked to hypersensitivity reactions. FD&C refers to approved for Food, Drug, and Cosmetic usage.
- Polyethylene Glycols (PEGs) – A common pharmaceutical excipient that can cause reactions in some individuals.
- Medical Gaslighting – When patients feel dismissed or their concerns are minimized by healthcare providers.
- Diagnostic Criteria – The formal checklist or set of rules doctors use to diagnose conditions.
- Zebra – Medical slang for a rare diagnosis; often used in rare disease communities.
