Pay Transparency Edition
Hey, recruiters, HR professionals, & hiring manager besties! 👋 let’s chat for a sec.
Today’s lesson in how not to perish while trying to fill an open role:
Put the salary in the job description!!! 👀
Duh.
If the SALARY RANGE isn’t listed, please don’t put candidates through four rounds of interviews before revealing it.
Please. I beg. A simple range CANNOT be that difficult.
The candidate isn’t making it all about money.
They simply cannot accept director-level expectations on an associate-level salary.
This matters SO MUCH in healthcare, nonprofits, patient advocacy, rare disease, and mission-driven organizations.
People can deeply believe in your mission AND need to pay their mortgage; those things are not mutually exclusive.
Pay transparency respects candidates and also respects recruiters and hiring managers by allowing people to self-select before everyone invests hours into an interview process that was never going to result in an accepted offer.
It’s 2026. For the love of PETE and all things green on earth.
Put. The. Salary. In. The. Job. Description.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. 🎤
(Compensation for attendance will be disclosed after the fourth round 😉)

Speaking of job searching…
I just launched a BRAND NEW Jobs & Careers resource page on How2NotDie.com. 🎉
Full disclosure: it is very much a baby resource page right now.
There is currently one resource listed: AbilityJOBS, which has been connecting people with disabilities and employers since 1995.
But the goal is much bigger! I want to continue building this page into a collection of resources that can help people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, rare diseases, and other accessibility needs find employment that actually works for their lives + needs.
This is where my recruiter, HR, healthcare, nonprofit, rare disease, and disability-professional friends can help:
Do you know of a resource that belongs on this page? Send it my way!
Job boards. Employment programs. Disability-inclusive employers. Career resources. Accommodation resources. Return-to-work programs. Organizations doing something genuinely useful in this space.
I want to know about them!
Because finding a job is hard enough (we don’t even need to get into it, we all know this sh!+ is hard).
And then finding one that works with your actual human life shouldn’t require an advanced degree in internet archaeology. 🤷 sorry not sorry (but I DO really hope this page is helpful; and I’m super duper open to feedback + any additional resources you think may benefit anyone in this space) xx
